• There are a thousand ways to kneel and kiss the earth.

  • As you start to walk out on the way, the way appears.

  • The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep.

What is Yoga?

Yoga is not a religion yet rather a PRACTICE that is good for all humans regardless of our particular cultural background or religious beliefs much like a healthy, balanced diet and exercise is good for everyone.

Although not religious, yoga can be very spiritural and helpful in enhancing one's personal faith and spirituality. The original word for yoga, "yuj" in Sanskrit, means "union" and in the strictist, oldest sense refers to our union as individuals with the Divine. The world's oldest and largest believe systems, including all the major religions, point to the existence of something larger than us, and original all-encompassing creative energy, force, or being; a higher power beyond time, space, or limitation. Every sacred text, oral tradition, or holy Scripture maintains that the meaningful connection with this power is both possible and desirable. In its purest form, yoga is exactly that: connection, through meditation.

By cultivating stillness and receptivity, through quietness and reflection, we can begin to find what it means to "be still and know that I am God." These practices require us to look inward and understand ourselves in a deeper way. However, there are many levels on which yoga is beneficial for us, and some individuals may be more drawn to yoga for its physiological benefits. Relaxation, stress relief, pain management, energy, flexibility, balance, coordination, range of motion, strength, to name a few.

Then "yuj" could be also defined as the union of body and mind, or as balancing of energies: the strong, firing, and active with the calm, stabilizing and relaxing.
